At least 13 people have been killed after armed bandits stormed a wedding celebration in Kahir village, located in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Sunday night, March 29.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to Daily Trust, the attackers, armed with AK-47 rifles, invaded the venue and began shooting indiscriminately at guests gathered in the hall. Several people who sustained gunshot wounds were rushed to Kagarko General Hospital, while two others with more severe injuries were transferred to Kaduna for further treatment.

“In fact, two of my friends who were inside the hall were also hit by bullets during the attack. We still cannot confirm how many people were kidnapped because of the chaos caused by the gunfire,” the eyewitness said.

A community leader, who requested anonymity, also confirmed the incident and listed some of the victims. They include Bako Danjuma, Williams Luka, Peter Williams, Joseph Yakubu, Victor Peter, John Dan Asabe, Angulu Markus, Maikano Aribi, Douglas John Ado Yakubu, Zaphaniah Alhaji, Joseph Kaddah, and Francis Unguwa Doya.

The community leader added that the attackers operated for nearly an hour without resistance. During that time, they also looted nearby shops, taking away food items, provisions, and medications from a local chemist.

He further disclosed that the victims have since been buried, while no contact has yet been established with the abductors.

“The entire community was thrown into panic due to the heavy gunfire that night. Some residents had to flee into the bush for safety,” he said.

A police source at the Kagarko Division confirmed the attack but noted that the exact number of abducted victims is still unknown.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Hassan Mansur, also confirmed the incident. He assured that a detailed report would be released later.
