A man has been accused of shooting his wife after a disagreement that reportedly began when she asked him to help clean their home before an upcoming trip.
Police in Louisville say they responded to reports of a shooting around 4:16 p.m. on March 14, 2026.
According to authorities, 57-year-old Patrick Brents allegedly shot and killed his wife, Carolyn Ross-Brents, following an argument inside their home.
Brents told investigators he had picked up the gun while trying to leave the house and claimed it went off accidentally.
However, court documents suggest the couple had been arguing after Ross-Brents asked him to tidy up before they travelled, saying she wanted to return to a clean home.
The situation escalated, and Brents reportedly retrieved a firearm from the bedroom.
A witness inside the house, believed to be the couple’s son—allegedly pleaded with him not to shoot. Brents is said to have responded, “What are you going to do about it?” before firing.
The witness reportedly saw his mother collapse after being shot in the abdomen. He then ran outside and asked a relative to call emergency services.
Police say Brents remained at the scene and has been charged with domestic violence-related assault.
